Business Tree Framework Worksheet 1

Resource Inventory

In the Business Tree Framework (BTF), soil is the foundational resources your business grows in and draws nourishment from. This includes tangible assets (like tools or money), intangible resources (like experience, community, or reputation), and your own internal reserves (like creativity or energy).

After completing your resource inventory you will:

  • See the resources you have to support your business growth

  • Identify what you are over/under using

  • Know your next steps for strengthening your foundations

1. Identify your External Resources

This can include tangible and intangible resources (like your network). List everything you currently have access to that supports your business growth. Don’t censor or judge - this can include anything that comes to mind!

What tools, spaces, funding and networks are available to you right now?

Examples:

  • Tools - booking systems, social media accounts, software

  • Physical assets - laptop, workspace, locations, tools of your trade

  • Money - savings, grants, stable income from employment

  • People - mentors, past clients, collaborators, supporters

  • Brand assets - logo, website, testimonials, photos

2. Identify your Internal Resources

Now it’s time to turn inward. Think about the skills, experiences, and strengths you’ve developed (both professionally and personally) that you will draw on in your business.

What life or work experiences have shaped how you support your clients?

Examples:

  • Skills - writing, coaching, marketing, organising

  • Experiences - past jobs, life challenges, parenting and caring

  • Certifications, qualifications, training

  • Lived experience and wisdom

3. What Resources do you have Under the Surface?

Sometimes we forget or undervalue things that are actually a core resource we lean on in our business.

What parts of your identity, heritage, culture, or personality give you a unique advantage, even if they aren’t obvious business assets?

4. Assess the Quality of Your Resources

Once you have your list pulled together, it’s time to step back and reflect. Imagine you are standing where you have planted your business tree. Is your soil rich and deep, or is it think and patchy in places?

Which parts of your “soil” feel nutrient-rich? Which parts might need extra support or improvements?

Optional Extra Check Ins

  • What are you already under using that you could lean into more?

  • Are there areas where comparison or imposter syndrome have led you to discount valuable resources you have?
