Three Reasons Showing Up is a GREAT Goal!
Do you ever struggle with knowing where to start? Or feel disheartened when you do start and you’re not where you hoped to be?
If this is you, showing up is a goal I’d love you to embrace, celebrate, and work towards.
Showing up is the first step to making magic happen in our routines, training, and me-time… so why not give that step the credit it deserves?
Showing up (and celebrating it) builds our win streak
Nothing boosts motivation like seeing how well you are doing, so why not make it easy to be awesome?
And no, this isn’t a cop-out, or anything like that, it’s working with your psychology to make it easier to succeed, and ultimately increase your chances of reaching those big goals!
We can actively improve our chances of showing up
A lot of our goals are outcome-based (e.g. lose 10lbs, run 5km in less than 30 minutes), and hard to influence directly. Outcome goals depend on a whole load of behaviours, which we can influence directly.
We can set a goal to run 5km in less than 30minutes… but if we never actually make it out of the door we’re not going to get very far, and that makes it really hard to reach that milestone.
But, if we plan to show up and run, we can make it easier to show up.
Think about putting your running shoes by the door, having an accountability buddy, or even changing our environment to make running more appealing.
We can make it easier to show up and run by focusing on the ‘showing up’ - that’ll get us way closer to that milestone than skipping runs and feeling disheartened!
Showing up means you win before you get started - and that means your session can be whatever you need it to be!
How free would you feel to just move, and flow, and enjoy your session if you knew you’d already done everything you ‘need’ to do.
When we focus on showing up we even see the kinda crappy training times as a win - because they are!
When we know we’ve won before we even get to the warm-up, it frees us up to feel good and even surprise ourselves with an extra good sesh… now doesn’t that sound great?
Who knows where you will end up when you start with a win!
… A Quick Note
When we set a goal to ‘show up’, that means that is the goal.
Everything else is extra.
That means we show up, and we celebrate showing up without condition, caveat, or “but…”.
You showed up. You nailed it. You did it!
